Listed below is everything you need to get connected

  • 1. An internet connection. Preferably stand alone and dedicated to the Hosted VoIP service. We can provide this or you can use your own. (learn more icon – links to Top Tips Broadband pdf)


  • 2. A VoIP Gateway. A small unit that connects to the broadband router and is provided and maintained by us. You need one for each site that has two or more phones. (Not required for Home Workers and Roaming Users).

  • 3. PoE Switch. These devices do two things. a) Provide power to the phones (PoE = Power over Ethernet) which saves on lots of untidy power adapters strewn around the office. b) Act as a central hub for all the phones to connect to, which then connect to the VoIP gateway. Available in 4, 8, 16, 24 and 48 ports.

  • 4. Choice of handsets.
    There many choices from the Mitel range of IP handsets. You can also use a Soft Phone or an iPhone app.

    The soft phone is effectively a client that you install onto a laptop. Once the user loads up the client and logs in, they become connected to the main phone network. Some functions are limited with the soft phone but all inter company calls are free and it is very handy in hotels and cafes. The software is a free 3rd party addition and is therefore an unsupported extra.
